On
Friday, August 3, 2007 I had the honor of being
invited to attend a public display of support for our
troops. Actually "invited" is not the
proper term, I was informed that I should and would be attending
... LOL. (Not that I had any reservations about supporting
such a worthy cause) I had been contacted the night
before and informed by Emmit Morehead that he would
be picking me up the next day and that I would accompany
him to Little Washington to meet Rodney Carroll (aka
Yakfisher) in order to publicly display our
support for the troops and their critical mission along
with a group of fellow patriots known as "The Gathering
of Eagles". I had heard many good things about
this group and was quite excited to be included in such
a positive event. Also a major objective was going to
be for us to confront a group of protesters who were
staging a protest demonstration that had been announced in
the papers and media earlier. We were to introduce
them (at a safe distance for them and through police
lines) to just a wee bit
of common sense about certain critical matters that
they could not grasp. This, of course sounded like good
fun to me. The next day Emmit stopped by the house
as promised with his "chip off the ole block", philosopher-fisherman
son Gordon (the two of them having to go about 100 miles
out of their way in order to take me along) and we headed
off to meet Rodney, his better half Sandra, and the
other Eagles.
Well, we made the trek
and, just as had been promised, I met a fine group of
patriots and people of principle and that REALLY made my
day. As of late I have been quite the hermit and opportunities
for me to participate in such a noble endeavor with
such a fine bunch of folks have not come along very
often. I brought my camera and Gadsden flag along (unfortunately,
in the rush, I forgot to bring a pole to display the
flag on ... I will not be so remiss in the future).
This being my first event with the Eagles and having
been informed of my attendance on short notice, I didn't
quite know what to bring. Rest assured that in the future
I will be much better prepared and equipped.
Anyway ... I will add
a lot more to this site later but I did want to at least
post these few pictures and comments about Friday's
event ... I had a great time and want to thank everyone
for making me feel welcome and right at home.
